Sheila Slawiak is currently teaching Computer Science, Digital Literacy, and Visual Communication for Pope Francis Preparatory School for grades 9-12. Prior to her accepting this teaching position, Sheila served 2 years as a Digital Literacy & Computer Science (DL & CS) teacher for grades 6-8 at Wilbraham Middle School. Because of her excellence in teaching the MA State awarded Sheila MA Teacher of the Year, Semifinalist for 2021. Sheila is honored to be one of the twelve selected for this prestigious award. During her time she brought new educational technologies to her students and gave them unique experiences outside of the classroom namely to present their technology projects at the 2019 MA Statehouse event called the Education Evolution sponsored by MassCUE. Her students were accepted at the March 2020 Nerd Summit. She served as the co-facilitator for an after-school club called Kids Who Code Club sponsored by Girls Who Code and they have built a healthy eating choice game as a working prototype using Thunkable mobile app developer.

Sheila taught DL & CS at Springfield Public School for 10 years and she has been involved with many aspects of school-based blended learning initiatives including planning and deploying a 1:1 laptop school-based initiative, proposing and deploying a school-wide streaming video system, setting up a makerspace environment for high-risk students, and conducting a wide variety of teacher workshops. Her teaching practice offers her students a broad range of educational technologies so they can choose how to present their knowledge in a variety of ways. These technologies include MS Office 365 applications, Google G Suite applications, animation, video, Scratch programming, Ozobot robots, and Micro:Bit microcontroller boards.
Sheila is a recipient of MassCUE’s 2018 Pathfinder award.
Sheila holds an MS. Communication from RPI and an M.Ed. from Westfield State University. Prior to teaching, she worked in the private business sector and her last position was as a management consultant for supply chain initiatives where she worked globally for Fortune 100 companies.
