Sonia Coleman added ESPN to her responsibilities as senior vice president, human resources, Disney general entertainment content in July 2021. She assumed that role in April 2017 and originally joined Disney in 2008. She will be a dual report to Jimmy Pitaro, Chairman, ESPN and Sports Content and Peter Rice, Chairman, Disney General. Sonia will also report to Paul Richardson, Senior Executive Vice President, Human Resources, TWDC.
In her new role, Coleman will be responsible for all diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, employee development and engagement, organizational development, employee relations, recruitment and compensation for both DGE’s and ESPN’s portfolios of businesses. DGE’s content businesses include 20th Television, 20th Television Animation, ABC Entertainment, ABC Signature, ABC News, Disney Branded Television, Freeform, FX, Hulu Originals, Onyx Collective and National Geographic.
Prior to her role as senior vice president, human resources, DGE, Coleman served as vice president, human resources for The Walt Disney Company from May 2016. In this capacity, she oversaw HR strategy, change management initiatives, organizational development and engagement strategies for Disney’s Corporate, enterprise and cross-functional employees, and served as the lead HR business partner to the Company’s senior corporate executives. She was also responsible for employee relations for The Walt Disney Company.
Coleman joined Disney in 2008 as vice president, human resources, Disney Consumer Products, a role she handled for eight years.
Prior to Disney, Coleman worked at The Children’s Place from 2004-2008, where she held several strategic HR roles; and before that, Home Depot from 1992-2004 where she served as the strategic HR leader during a period of large-scale change and complex organizational transformation.
Coleman has a bachelor of science in organizational leadership from Chapman University and a masters of science in human resource management from Florida International University.
