Roxanna Sherwood is Senior Executive Producer of Original Longform Content at ABC News.  She is known for her creative narrative storytelling and immersive style.  She began her career at ABC News 25 years ago as a desk assistant, held a variety of technical roles in satellite operations and affiliate news services before moving into longform.  Her illustrious and varied career spans showrunning major network news broadcasts, newsmagazine producing to editorial oversight of many original programs and documentary series for the network and streamers.  She spent years honing her craft at Nightline where Roxanna was among the first producers to shoot her own pieces, helping to define a new way the show's award-winning reports were produced.  She oversaw and produced Nightline’s first foray into primetime in 2010 with a four-hour network series on the brain spurred by her reporting on concussions in the NFL and a then little-known disease called CTE.  She went on to oversee many of Nightline’s hours in primetime before joining the senior staff at 20/20 in 2012 where she managed concept hours, innovative segments, and live breaking news specials.    

Roxanna’s early documentary work includes the seven-hour ABC series she co-produced “NYPD 24/7” (Best Documentary Emmy-nominated) an inside look at the NYC Police Department and the medical series “Hopkins 24/7” widely considered groundbreaking in that genre.  A documentary approach to storytelling has always been at the heart of Roxanna’s productions and was clear in her work as Executive Producer of Nightline. Under her leadership at Nightline from 2014 through 2017, the show distinguished itself through award-winning reporting, series, and specials and broadened its presence in digital with original content like her brainchild series “A Murder on Orchard Street” which was also a popular podcast.  She helmed the political docuseries “Inside the Final 30” that shaped Nightline’s reporting throughout the 2016 Election and forged the way on charged topics like the series “America in Black and White” which dissected issues around race relations and gun violence.  Her Edward R. Murrow Award winning series “Face-to-Face” celebrated Roxanna's interest in what happens between human beings when facing one another on deeply sensitive issues by bringing them together for pivotal conversations or encounters.  She explored doing her signature series in front of live audiences at Good Morning America when she became that show’s Executive Producer in 2017.  GMA remained number one in total viewers during Roxanna’s tenure.  In early 2020, Roxanna returned to longform as streaming platforms were fast becoming a priority for Disney/ABC.  Her sensibility for emotionally powerful content is evident in several of her recent breaking news feature documentaries on Hulu including "24 Hours: Assault on the Capitol” (winner of a 2021 Gracie Award).  Most recently, she was the creator and Senior Executive Producer of “Mike Tyson: the Knockout” a four-hour series that aired on ABC and Hulu.   Her awards include eight Emmys, a Cine Golden Eagle, a DuPont, and a Murrow.  Roxanna is a double Columbia graduate, earning a Master’s degree in print journalism from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor's degree from Columbia College where she majored in Latin American History.  Roxanna was born and raised in Manhattan where she currently lives with her young son.
